On New Years Eve 1999, I produced the Millennial Burn Part II Video/Performance. I was buried in the ashes leftover from burn at the beach in September. These images show Rachel McKay washing these ashes from my body as a purification for our entrance into the new millennium. Video was projected onto us through a transparent fabric layer. The sound artwork for this performance was a combination of native american chants and an original voice and synthesizer composition I produced for this performance.

The Millennial Burn Installation ended with a performance/artwork. I separated the thousands of contributions we received at the museum and on the web site into five categories; hate, fear, greed, violence and war, and ignorance. The performance began with a Five Dakini dance/ritual. I then proceeded to burn the contributions as a ritual release. Audience members were invited to burn their own contributions as well.

Basket of Sticks: An Homage to the Suffering of Women, shown in Tokyo and Kyoto galleries in June and July 1994, focused on worldwide violence against women. It included a live performance in the installation in which I wove and prayed while the Self-Blessing video was projected onto a world map painted to reflect statistics on violence against women. In June 1994, I performed the Self-Blessing Video/Performance in Tokyo. The video is a series of “self-blessings” done by myself and by other women which were individualized, personal reflections on each woman’s relationship with her body. I videotaped each performance and then edited a selection of performances into one video.  I produced a live performance in Tokyo, where the Self-Blessing video was shown on four TV monitors while I destroyed a pile of Japanese pornographic materials (magazines, videos) depicting the sexual/physical exploitation and violation of women. These materials were projected on to a large screen during this process, so the audience could clearly see them and their destruction.
